Solar charge controllers

Solar chargers collect energy from your solar panels and store it in your batteries. Using the latest and fastest technology, the SmartSolar maximizes this energy harvest, managing it intelligently to reach the maximum load in the shortest possible time. The SmartSolar takes care of the health of the battery, extending its useful life.

The SmartSolar charge controller will recharge even an extremely depleted battery. It can operate on a battery voltage of up to 0 volts, as long as the cells are not sulphated or permanently damaged

MPPT: Ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking

Thanks to the continuous monitoring of the output voltage and current of its solar panels (PV), the MPPT technology (Ultra-Fast Tracking of the Maximum Power Point, for its acronym in English) guarantees the collection and storage of each particle of energy available in your panels. The advantage of this process is most evident when the sky is partially cloudy and the intensity of the light is constantly changing.

Remote monitoring and control

Remotely monitor and control your MPPT SmartSolar charger's multitude of options by adding a Bluetooth dongle to it and pairing it with your smartphone or other device via VictronConnect. If your installation is connected to the Victron Remote Management Portal (VRM), you will also have access to all the power of your MPPT, anytime, anywhere; both services are free. In the case of remote installations, even when there is no internet connection available, you can monitor your MPPT by connecting the GlobalLink 520.

Load output

The intelligent Charge Output function prevents damage that occurs when a battery becomes "empty". You can configure the voltage at which the SmartSolar should disconnect the load, thus avoiding excessive drainage of its batteries. And here's the nifty trick: SmartSolar will try to recharge the battery to 100% every day. If it cannot do this, such as in bad weather, it will raise the disconnect voltage daily until it succeeds. We call this feature BatteryLife, because it maintains the health of your battery and extends its useful life.

    REGULATIONS

    • Safety EN / IEC 62109-1, UL 1741, CSA C22.2
  • The Differences of PWM and MPPT Regulators

What solar controller do I need according to the type of solar panel?

Normal regulator (PWM): Whether you have 12V solar panels to use in an isolated (or autonomous) 12V solar installation, or if you have 24V solar panels and 72 cells to use in a 24V installation, you must use a normal regulator (PWM type). Which is the most economical and suitable for this type of solar panel.

Maximizer regulator (MPPT): If you have 24V solar panels and 60 cells (plates with a power greater than 200W), to be used in an isolated 24V solar installation, you must use an MPPT maximizer regulator. Necessary to amplify the voltage of these solar panels, so that when it reaches the batteries it is high and the energy is well stored. The MPPT regulator is more expensive but it is necessary with this type of plates. Which without the use of MPPT, the useful life of the batteries would be damaged since they could not be equalized and they would sulfate in a few months.
